CYNTHIA BROWN Drawing, painting and “making things” since early childhood, this native Tulsan’s inspiration for her art comes from her feline companions and from her love for nature. She received her BFA in painting from the University of Tulsa in 1985. After several years working commercially as a visual coordinator she developed an interest in clay, and returned to TU and received her MFA in 2001. Her ceramic sculptures are in a number of private collections, and have won awards and been exhibited throughout the region. She currently teaches fine art at Booker T Washington High School in Tulsa, and owns and operates Brown Cat Studio with her husband. She claims to have mothered over 50 cats during her lifetime, with at least one special cat that will sleep under the blankets with her at night. Currently, she cares for six cats and one catified human, while occasionally fostering homeless cats and helping to locate good homes for them. She collects cat whiskers for use in some of her larger whimsical sculptures to add a little touch of the cats' magical power to them. |
